About the Authors

The Authors, Joan Fraser & Liz Smith

Joan Fraser has been teaching in the junior primary classroom for forty years. She has a multitude of experiences with varied age groups and is passionate about successful learning in literacy as it underpins every aspect of learning. Joan loves children and is passionate about seeing them develop as successful learners. To that end she believes that learning to read opens the world for all future learning.Currently Joan is working with indigenous students and is also tutoring students from prep to year six.

Liz Smith has been teaching for thirty two years in a variety of different teaching environments. These include teaching Aboriginal children, hearing impaired students, course developing for students living in remote environments and students living in small country communities. These experiences have provided Liz the opportunity to develop a wide variety of skills which have enhanced her teaching expertise. Liz is passionate about teaching literacy and for catering to all learning styles. Liz is currently lecturing and tutoring pre-service teachers at the Federation University. Her subjects of expertise and choice are literacy based. In this way Liz is passing on her passion for literacy while keeping abreast of current trends and ideas.

Currently Liz is working on adult literacy for migrants and refugees. She is creating a completely new series of reading for understanding. This series is specifically for adults who have little or no English. These EAL literacy sheets will be uploaded soon.

Between the two teachers there is a wealth of experience and expertise directly relating to the classroom. Their life experiences greatly enhance their writing making captivating and relevant reading material.

The Joli Reading Program is the ultimate reading program in the early learning platform, incorporating reading, comprehension and grammar activities based on the experience Joan and Liz have to offer.

The program was written for the students in their classrooms providing experienced students with the expertise from two very experienced educators with a passion for helping students achieve to the best of their ability. The program has evolved as the need arises. It factors in the specific needs of individual students enabling them to move forward at a pace that suits them.
